After graduating from Insight School of Minnesota in 2018, they went on to work a few retail jobs before deciding to work on their associate’s in fine arts at Minneapolis College.Starting off with a plan to work on printmaking and digital art, Roni has pivoted to use watercolor painting as their preferred traditional medium. Reflecting the ever-changing nature of their life, Roni believes that they can convey the idea of change best with the use of watercolor.

artist statement

I have always used my personal art to convey the complex relationship I have with myself. outside of my BPD diagnosis, I have been depressed for a long, long time. vent art was never unfamiliar territory to me, but following the death of my brother in 2018 I really started to lean into it digitally. Then, after my dad died in 2021, I went back to school for my Fine Arts degree and learned how to effectively use watercolour in a way that really resonated with me.

I want to use my art to allow a glimpse into what it feels like to live with a disorder that constantly puts you at war with yourself, and to allow people to have conversations about these darker topics surrounding mental health. Sometimes you can’t just grin and bear it, and we have to expose ourselves to the ugly truth within these struggles. opening the door to these conversations will also allow us to expose ourselves to these truths in a productive way.
